Can I put an iron pipe as orniment freshwater fish in my tank? ?
Can I put a piece of real melting in my tank freshwater tropical fish? What does it do to fish? Is water bad for plants? I cleaned and burned all impurities so it is only the content of metals that could alter the water chemistry. Ideas? I just want to try and see who dies. Thank you
Cast iron is oxidized in the water, but probably only to a certain depth in the iron. The cast is almost 100% iron, with a small amount of carbon where rust and iron rust, if what is added to water is iron oxide. In a small number is good for plants and fish. In fact, there are special supplement of iron sold for planted tanks. But if you have a lot of it, the water turns brown or reddish brown, and the relatively high levels is a fish poison. So if you're bad, probably depends on the size of the piece of iron is the amount of water in your tank and how often do you change water. Oh, and the pH of your water. Like most metals, iron corrode (rust) is much faster in water acid than in alkaline water, and faster in fresh water than in hard water.
