Can I use a ballast 150 Watt Metal halide with a 250?

I have one gallons Nano 25 high, and someone sells 250 watt ballast, but I think that 250 watts would be too much for the size of the aquarium. Can I use less energy with this ballast? By the way, what would amount recommended for this size aquarium without frying my fish and corals?
