Why do not planes fly at low altitude air breathed in an emergency?
If you are flying a somewhat lower than that outside air that humans breathe Why can airplanes fly at this height if ermergency tel. a broken window or something.
The previous answers on the fuel consumption is correct. But the main reason the aircraft began to fly so high they could be above the weather conditions. Most weather in the atmosphere at 18,000 feet or less. fly above the comfort cabin considerably. I think the first person who really has the idea was Howard Hughes. Once we have obtained that passenger planes economy Fuel and type of extra speed has fallen into line. Thus, it saves fuel, but the idea was to passenger comfort. Certainly, an airliner must be able to lose altitude in a specific period of time if there was a cabin decompression. The new aircraft flying at 50,000 feet are in an entirely new category. I'm not positive, someone can correct me, but I think the standard is 10 minutes reach altitudes of 12,000 feet cruising altitude.
