How do I clean my Aquarium Filter sponge dirt without diffusion into the water?
When I take my Sponge Filter (in vacuum) the weaker party outside aquarium until all dirt and spills of sludge in the water. Not much left to wash the sponge and the land is still floating in the water. I tried to grab the towel with a paper towel or plastic bag in hand to prevent dirt floating, but seems to work.
You do not need to change / clean the sponge unless you pick it up and press with fingers and did not recover. If you bounce back, do nothing with it. The sponge is the main presenter of beneficial bacteria in the tank. If you change, you will probably send your car through a mini-cycle that will stress the fish out. If you press and no rebound try it out and rinse in a bucket of water treated with decholorinator. After rinsing with water if this does not always bounce back, then you should replace it completely. You should not have to do more than once every six months (or more).
